KBSL employees, in an effort to making a difference to the lives of the less privileged, recently concluded a CSR project facilitating the donation of stationery, books, shoes and other essential school supplies to students at the Doragala Vidyalaya in rural Kotmale.

Situated close to the Kotmale town, the school was a roughly constructed one-room building that housed all the classes. The school was operating without sufficient desks and chairs for the students who attend from the neighbouring areas as well.

“Most students walk barefoot for miles to get to school, and struggle to learn due to the severe lack of books and stationery etc,” Silmy Ahamed, COO of KBSL, was quoted as saying in a media release.

“The school contacted us a while ago, requesting any support and after an initial visit, we knew we had to fix as many of their problems as possible.

We initiated a large collection of goods and learning essentials for the classrooms,” he added.

Under the guidance of the KBSL CSR arm, the staff members and their families showed incredible generosity, donating numerous school essentials including textbooks, stationery, shoes and other necessary learning equipment for the students.

“The response from our staff was tremendous. When we reached out to them, not just the current KBSL employees and their families but even past employees and KBSL employees situated abroad made donations – both monetary and goods to ensure that the lives of these children were improved through our efforts,” added Mr. Ahamed.
