Krishna Leela Dance Drama by Kathak expert
Internationally acclaimed dancer and dance lecturer, Veronika Dassanayaka together with her students will bring Madav Krishna Leela Dance Drama, a Kathak style drama at 6 pm on October 12 at Saraswathi Hall, Wellawatte.
Organised by the Colombo branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON), the Krishna Leela dance starts with the Krishna vandhan and the Sri Lankan traditional Pooja Dance. Cultural Minister T. B. Ekanayake will be the chief guest at the dance drama event.
A gifted dancer Veronika is an artiste as well as a lecturer in Kathak dance in Sri Lanka. She has created a new innovative style of performing arts by enriching it with a deeper and wider canvas of expressions and dimensions.
Having studied at Pushpadhana Girl’s College Kandy and Anula Vidhyalaya Colombo, Veronika started her dancing at the age of five years.
Veronika was awarded ICCR (Indian Council For Cultural Relationship) scholarship in 2002 for Bhatkhande Music University Lucknow India just after her Advanced Level examination. Specialising in kathak dance, her final grooming was done under the renowned Kathak exponent Pt. Arjun Mishra, who is a student of Birju rnaharaj.
Having successfully completedw the Bachelor of Performing Arts Degree with first class honours in 2008 at Bhatkhande Music University Luwcknow India and Master of Arts at Visual and Performing Arts at University Colombo Sri Lanka in 2012, Veronika obtained Nipun in Kathak Dance with first class from Bhatkhande Sangeeth Vidyapeet Lucknow, India.
Having extensively toured abroad and around Sri Lanka rendering recitals and lecturer demonstrations, Veronika up to date has trained a large number of students. Her forte is Abhinaya which she has received highest acclaims.
