With the World Wildlife Fund saying human action had led to a drastic 52 per cent reduction in the number of animals in the past 40 years, Sri Lanka joined other countries in marking World Animal Day yesterday. Amid criticism the Government did little to save animals dying in drought-stricken districts, this tell-tale sign of trade in animal products was seen at a government-run Laksala outlet yesterday with a foreigner bargaining for an ornament made of a horn.
