China proves their medal power

Asian powerhouse China took a major share of the medals as the 17th Asian Games came to a grand conclusion in Incheon, South Korea yesterday. Asian Games, the biggest sporting event to be held in the region, was unique to South Korea who displayed their hosting capabilities as well as progress in the field of sports.
China, who topped the medals tally with 342 won 151 gold medals while hosts South Korea, who finished second had 79 gold medals within their tally of 234 medals. Japan was placed third in the list with 200 medals, inclusive of 47 gold medals. The significant aspect of the 17th version of the Asian Games was 37 countries, out of a total participation of 45, winning at least a medal.
Sri Lanka won two medals, a gold and a bronze, both from cricket, finished as 27th in the medals tally. The closing ceremony was held in a grand scale at the main stadium in Incheon, with most of the Sri Lankan athletes taking part in it.
