SriLankan Airlines bagged a “triple” by retaining the Men’s Open and the Men’s Veterans (Over 40) and regaining the Women’s title after three years, at the 19th Travel Trade Sports Club Badminton Championships 2014, sponsored by Serendib Leisure for the fourth time, at St. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium last Sunday.

32 teams from 14 TTSC Member firms participated in the three segments of the tournament.

Ranil de Silva, Managing Director and Suranjith de Fonseka, Director Sales and Marketing, both from Serendib Leisure and Prabath Harshakumar, VP/TTSC gave away the awards.

Results (all finals):

Men’s Open: SriLankan Airlines beat Serendib Leisure 3/0, winning all the three singles; Mahesh Jayasinghe beat Palitha Gunasekera 21/16, 21/12; Sampath Soysa beat Harindu Jayakody 21/9, 21/10; Adrian Rajaratne beat Dilusha Madushan 21/12, 21/11.

Most Outstanding Player: Sampath Soysa from SriLankan Airlines

Women’s: SriLankan Airlines beat the combined team from Walkers Tours and Whittalls Travels 2/0 winning the two Singles; D.Lokunarangoda beat Randika Dissanayake 21/7, 21/2; D. Kulaweera beat Nalika Abeysuriya 21/9, 21/10.

Most Outstanding Player: Dhanuri Kulaweera from SriLankan Airlines.

Men Veterans (Over 40): SriLankan Airlines beat Kingsbury Hotel 2/0 winning the 1st Single and the only double.

Dayantha Fernando beat Nimal Alahakoon 21/7, 21/4; Sujith Wijetunga and Anuraji de Silva beat Basil Ranmuka and Nimal Allahakoon 21/13, 21/14.

Most Outstanding Player: Sujith Wijetunga from SriLankan Airlines.
