Mahatma Gandhi statue unveiled at Point Pedro
View(s):Acting Consul General of India, S.D. Moorthy unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Point Pedro on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Indian nation on October 2. The statue was installed near the city centre square by the Urban Council of Point Pedro
The function was attended by Northern Provincial Council Chairman, C.V.K. Sivagnanam, NPC Members, Urban Council Chairman Mr Ravindran, and Members, DS of Point Pedro Mr Jayaseelan and Gandhian admirers.
The speakers reiterated the relevance of Gandhian thoughts for the present generation and recalled Gandhiji’s visit to Point Pedro and Jaffna in the 1940s.
Mr Moorthy thanked and commended the Urban Council for honouring Gandhiji on his birth anniversary by unveiling his statue.
