Orville Fernando resigns
View(s):The President of Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees (SLSRFR), Orville Fernando, has resigned from his post according to an email addressed to the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). An official of SLSRFR confirmed that he had received an email forwarded by the SLRFU which was sent by his President, Fernando.
The official also confirmed that the election to the post of President of SLSRFR was by its members and he should have informed the society. Fernando was challenged for the post in the second year at the Annual General Meeting held in January this year and was elected over Dilroy Fernando by a mere majority of three votes.
At a critical time when the Premier Club Rugby season is about to commence and with amendments of the laws to be discussed, this resignation has caused serious concern according to club sources.
Group Captain Nalin de Silva said that he had received an email and the council has noted same and have taken action to minimise any damage that may be caused.
He stated that the SLRFU has appointed a three-member committee to be headed by Council Member Chula Dharmadasa to ensure that the game continues with the support of the referees. The committee will also comprise of two other members, both of whom are former international referees and also have held the position of Secretary and Vice President of the SLSRFR.
The Sundays Time also understands that Dilroy Fernando has been appointed as the Coach of Match Officials (CMO) for the last leg of the Asian Sevens Series to be played in China. According to referees it looks odd when Dilroy Fernando who is recognised for international appointments is left out from helping referees as a CMO in Sri Lanka.
