First day’s play called off at Uyanwatta due to incessant rain
The first day’s play of the second four day unofficial Test between the touring West Indies ‘A’ team and the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team which was scheduled to start today at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara was called off at 11.30am, due to incessant rain.
Upul Tharanga was named to lead the Sri Lanka team and Niroshan Dikwella as wicketkeeper. The rest of the team was to be picked from Vishwa Fernando, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kasun Madhusanka, Ashan Priyanjan, Kithruwan Vithanage, Rumesh Buddhika, Nuwan Pradeep, Nisala Tharaka, Tharindu Kaushal, Jehan Mubarak, Lakshan Rangika and Madhawa Warnapura.
The West Indies ‘A’ team will be led by Carlos Brathwaite, and would be picked from Devendra Bishoo, Kraigg Brathwaite, Miguel Cummins, Andre Fletcher, Shannon Gabriel, Shane Shillingford, Sunil Ambris, Jermaine Blackwood, Sheldon Cortell, Kirk Edwards, Assad Fudadin, Nikita Miller and Chadwick Walton.
Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Seekuge Prasanna, Shaminda Eranga and Lahiru Gamage who played in the first match have been left out of the squad for this game.
The umpires for the second test are Pradeep Udawatte and Prageeth Rambukwella while Deepal Gunawardena was the standby umpire. Wendall Labrooy is the match referee.
Players were seen signing autographs and cricket bats of the few youngsters who were at the Uyanwatta Stadium yesterday.
