The 38th Mercantile Hockey Sevens Championship was concluded last Sunday at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo when Hatton National Bank (HNB) trounced Sampath Bank with an easy 5-0 victory to annex the coveted Hockey Sevens Championship Trophy.

Sampath Bank had no answer to the fast moving HNB mid fielders who kept on attacking from the start. A superb team work combined with fine stick work and passing made the HNB task easy with the main scorers being U. Fernando and D. Bandara sounding the board twice each and M. Nuwan and S. Hussain scoring one goal each. M. Nuwan was adjudged the Best Player of the Finals.

The awards and results of the rest of the Division finals are as follows:

‘B’ Division: HSBC beat AIA 1-0 to win the Singer Trophy (S. Rasiah 1) – Best Player: M. Perera (HSBC)
‘C’ Division: Seylan Bank beat Seylan Bank ’B’ 2-0 to win the Lifebuoy Trophy (A. Wijekoon 2) – Best Player: I. Ghouse (Bevita)
‘D’ Division: Nations Trust Bank beat A.W.D. 3-1 to win the Edmond J. Cooray Trophy – Best Player: D. Silva (NTB)
‘E’ Division: WSO2 beat MAS ‘B’ 1-0 to win the Ceylon Cold Stores Trophy (V. Ekanayake 1) – Best Player: V. Ekanayake (WSO2)
