Navy super cross at Welisara on Nov 15 and 16
View(s):The inaugural Navy Supercross 2014 will be flagged off on November 15 and 16 at the newly laid supercross and gravel track at the Navy Base in Welisara.
The Navy Supercross track is the latest addition to the Sri Lankan motor racing tracks and is also the closest gravel track to the city of Colombo. It was built by Sri Lanka Navy at their Welisara Naval Complex.
The final gravel stage of the Sri Lanka Super Series for this year, the Navy Supercross is all set to bring the best experience for motor sport enthusiasts. The top class track will help local and foreign drivers and riders to showcase the best of their skills and the power of their mean machines to make the best out of this opportunity to grab points. The location will easily accommodate more than 30,000 spectators at the designated areas which will offer the best viewing experience.
The organisers have set November 7 as the closing date for calling in entries, which will be accepted at the SLARDAR Office at 128, High Level Road, Nugegoda on weekdays from 9.00am to 4.00pm and at Speedrome, Pannipitiya Road, Battaramulla on weekdays from 3.00pm to 10.00pm and on weekends from 10.00am to 10.00pm.
The track which is easily accessible through the Colombo-Negombo Road, covers more than 40 acres while the length of the motocross track is 1.8km and the length of the motor car track is around 1.2km. The motocross track designed with the guidance of German National Ex Motor Cross rider Ralf Karpinski and Sri Lankan star rider Gayan Sandaruwan according to best of standards, is also the longest in the country and features seven corners and 13 jumps.
The revolutionary Sri Lanka Super Series was launched at the start of this year and is held under the guidance of the Ministry of Sports and Sri Lanka Automobile Sports. The Sri Lanka Super Series 2014 includes six races that take place in various locations across the island throughout the year and the Navy Supercross is the final event on gravel tracks for this year. The event is organised by the Carlton Motor Sports Club in conjunction with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR), Asian Motor Racing Club and Negombo Motor Sports Club.
