SL Navy, Christ Church and Sangamitta excel at Super Hockey 7s

Sri Lanka Navy, Christ Church Matale and Sri Sangamitta Girls N.S. (formerly BMS) Matale excelled to carry away major honours at the 20th People’s Bank Super Hockey Seven 2014 for clubs and schools worked off at Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.

The two day annual hockey fiesta in the hill capital organized by Seetha Devi Girls School, Kandy and sponsored by People’s Bank saw the participation of 40 under 19 school teams and 23 club teams this year.

A total of 24 boys teams and 16 girls teams contested in the schools segment while 17 men’s and 6 women’s teams contested in the club segment which was held on October 4th and 5th.

defending Champions Vijaya College Matale in the final D.M. Bandara and C.C. Chandrasena netted a goal each for the Champions.

Sadaruwani Jayaratne powered Matale Sri Sangamitta Girls to wrap up the title with a thrilling 1-0 win over fancied Seetha Devi Girls Kandy in the final.

Club Championship

Sri Lanka Navy excelled to bag both the men’s and women’s titles in the club competition in the men’s final Navy ‘A’ beat their Navy ‘B’ 2-0 with M.G. Ratnasiri and S.K. Ubesiri netting a goal each. While Navy Women annexed the title by defeating Seetha Devi S C Kandy 2-0 Maneesha Dissanayake and Chaturika Wijesooriya scored a goal each for Navy Women.
