INFOTEL brings new hope for the ICT industry in Sri Lanka
While hosting the 13th consecutive largest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exhibition in the country, INFOTEL hopes this will trigger more robust technological advancement with new innovations.
Speaking at the launch of the exhibition at the BMICH held in Colombo recently, FITIS Chairman Chinthaka Wijewickrama said, “Human Capital is the main investment the ICT industry can put in for advancement in technology while creativity and ingenuity beig the goals of improvement. We empower people with knowledge for a smarter tomorrow.”
Minister of Telecommunication and IT, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya attending the launch of the exhibition as the Chief Guest and rushing through his speech to attend a meeting before the 2015 Budget being presented at the parliament last Friday said, “The ICT industry in Sri Lanka is improving day-by-day with new advanced innovations coming out from university graduates. There is a lot of hope that the industry as a whole can do a lot to improve the ICT sector of the country”.
Derrick Ferdinandus, Chairman of the organizing committee of INFOTEL, said this year the exhibition had featured a new stall known as the IT Museum where all kinds of old computers and other electronic devices were kept for viewing. He said they had been expecting around 6,000 school students, 1,000 teachers and more than 40,000 visitors at the exhibition this time.
For the first time a virtual mobile application was installed to go through the map of the stalls and check for products that are available at the exhibition. Also an ICT Job Bank was set up to collect CV’s of students and a career guidance programme for school goers.
Many school children visited the exhibition from different parts of the country in buses.
