It’s a draw at TTSC tag rugby
View(s):In a repeat final of last year, Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘A’ and Walkers Tours ‘A’ clashed at the 2nd Travel Trade Sports Club (TTSC) 5-a-side, Beach Tag Rugby Championships 2014, but the eventual result was a thrilling draw, where both teams were declared joint champions.
The ‘Cup’ final between the defending champions, Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘A’ and the 2013 runners-up, Walkers Tours ‘A’, after some fierce competition finished as a scoreless draw and even six minutes of extra time failed to break the deadlock.
At this stage the Tournament Director, Dilroy Fernando decided to declare them as joint winners, as rain was threatening to come down at any moment.
Cinnamon Grand Colombo ‘B’ won the ‘Plate’ title, beating Classic Travels ‘A’ 10/5, while Walkers Tours ‘B’ took the ‘Bowl’ beating Ramada Colombo with the same scoreline.
At the completion of the round robin stage, consisting 15 matches, the top two teams of each group qualified for the ‘Cup’ and the ‘Plate’ and the third team qualified for the ‘Bowl’ segment.
The tournament, with a participation of 13 teams pooled into four groups for the second year, was sponsored by Walkers Tours, hosted by Mt. Lavinia Hotels Group and conducted by AGoal International and was held at the Paradise Beach in Mt. Lavinia.
The presenters at the post tournament awards were, chief guest Prabath Harshakumar (VP/JK Group & Head of Business Development, Walkers Tours), guest of honour Chinthaka Daluwatte (Group Director, Sales and Marketing, Mt. Lavinia Hotels Group), Denesh Silva (President /TTSC), TTSC committee members Sasala Dissanayake, Cammie Gunasekera and Fawzan Fareid.
