Sri Lanka A take lead in ODI series
Sri Lanka A took a 1-0 lead in the three match ODI series against West Indies A when they recorded a six run win on the Duckworth/Lewis method in the rain marred first ODI played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium yesterday.
West Indies A in their run chase of 246 runs were 71 for 2 after 20 overs when a heavy shower put a stoppage to the proceedings which forced the umpired to call off the match.
Earlier Sri Lanka A invited to take first lease of the wicket lost two early wickets with just ten runs on the board in the sixth over before a valuable partnership of 105 runs for the third wicket between skipper Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal, who made a knock of 60 that included four boundaries and a six, saw them make a recovery. Skipper Thirimanne added a further 50 runs with Kithruwan Vithanage before being separated with the dismissal of Vithanage. Thirimanne went on to make a fine knock of 74 which comprised six boundaries and a six. From there on Sri Lanka A, going in for quick runs, lost wickets at regular intervals before ending their innings making a score of 245 with Thilina Kandamby cracking an unbeaten 58 in just 40 balls. The two sides will play their second match at the Welagedera Stadium in Kurunegala tomorrow.
