Naeem, Rimzan, Dinuruwan, Haniff qualify to semis
The Colombo District Billiards tournament, the qualifying tournament for the forthcoming Billiards National Championship saw M.B. Naeem (YMCA), M.Rimzan (Army), S.S. Dinuruwan (Army) and M.H.O. Haniff (MSC) qualifying to the semi finals which is scheduled to be played at the MICH billiards table in Colombo.

The foursome in booking their berths recorded wins over Riyaz Noor (MSC), G.G.S. Wickrama (Army), M.I. Farook (MICH) and S.A. Wimalaratne (SLPA) in the five frame quarter final encounters played at the same venue yesterday.

The Colombo District tournament saw a record 113 cueists in the fray. The completion of the district tournaments will be followed by the All Island Lanka Plate Championship which will be contested by 36 cueists and slotted to be worked off from November 10.
The 36 participants for the All Island Lanka Plate comprises of the 16 cueists who were relegated from Billiards National Championship last year, the last 16 qualifiers of the Colombo District tournament and four from Galle district.
The two semi finals are scheduled to be played from 10.00 a.m. which will be M.B. Naeem vs M. Rimzan and S.S. Dinuruwan vs M.H.O. Haniff. The final is due to be played from 2.00 p.m. onwards. All the matches will be played over five frames.
