The Cabinet has decided to appoint some 4,000 in-service advisors selected from teachers.

The post is considered the highest in the teachers’ grade and lower than the principals’ position.

The advisors will be selected from teachers who have reached Grade I.

‘The request to have a separate grade for this sector has been a long standing demand.  Accordingly the service minutes for in-service advisors has been issued’,  Education Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake told the Sunday Times.

He said they will have a separate salary structure and a promotion scheme and added the scheme is set to come into effect in two weeks time.
