17 meet records at International Schools Swim championship
Seventeen meet records were established at the 20th International Schools Swimming Championships 2014/15 worked-off on day one at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex yesterday.
The meet was organised by the Asian International School to coincide with their 25th anniversary celebrations. A total number of 822 swimmers boys and girls from 21 International Schools took part in this year’s championships.
Sri Lanka’s swimming prodigy Kimiko Raheem stole the limelight on day one when she was responsible for two records established. Raheem, semi-finalist at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in the 50 metre Back Stroke event, first lowered her own record established last year in the Girls 14-15 200 Metre IM Group 2 with a time of 2:40.48 with a new time of 2:37.16 and in the Girls14-15 100 Metre Back Stroke Group 2 she bettered the record held by Kuvira Manamperi of CIS with a time of 1:19.07 in 2013 with a new time of 1:09.13.
The others who established new records are: Hiruki De Silva (Lyceum Panadura) (2), Thinaya Jayaratne (Lyceum Panadura), Alvin Arulmaran (Gateway Colombo), Sarah L. Shea (Overseas School), Vihanga Perera (Gateway Colombo), Thinaya Jayaratne (Lyceum Panadura), Araliya Gunasekera (Gateway Colombo) (2), Alvin Arulmaran (Gateway Colombo), Stephan Perera (Gateway Colombo), Radush Sathasivam (Lyceum Wattala), Hiruni De Soyza (Gateway Colombo), Chris Pavitra (Lyceum Nugegoda), Danidu De Costa (Lyceum Nugegoda).
The finals of each event will take place today.
