With Run for Their Lives coming up in December, we thought it might perhaps be time for the more passionate of runners to begin training for the run which raises millions in aid of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital every year. Here’s what you need to know about Run For Their Lives- It began in 2010 with 300 people, raising Rs.400,000. Last year, RFTL drew in over 2000 participants. This year they target an attendance of 3000.
The run is organised by the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown and managed by a group of young people every year. They volunteer their time for the cause, and the organization process usually begins months before the event. Every year the money is directed towards purchase of medicine for the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, which provides free consultation and treatment for those afflicted with cancer.
They’ve had celebrity endorsements from the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Koluu and Angelo Matthews. Registration for the event will comprise of entrance, t-shirt and access to the after-events. A fun fair after the run will be held at CH&FC after the run. This year two cyclists-Eugene and Dhanushka- from Cycle Sri Lanka travelled around the country in 11 days to raise funds and awareness for RFTL. Catch their story soon on the Mirror Magazine!
