Election violence and violation of election laws
View(s):With the announcement of the presidential election, incidents of violence and violation of election laws are already being reported.
A former UNP Pradeshiya Sabha member was shot and wounded by an unidentified gunman in the Maggona area in Beruwala on Friday (21) night. Our pictures show police personnel inspecting the site where an unidentified
gunman shot and wounded the provincial councillor at Maggona .
During times of election, police officers are supposed to remain apolitical. However a member of the Chilaw police force was among the chief guests. He was seen lighting an oil lamp at the opening of an election campaign office this week.
Following the recent political upheaval where particular UPFA ministers crossed over to the opposition, our cameramen photographed instances where cutouts of these ministers appearing on election promotional material were seen ripped off.
Our cameramen also photographed uniformed officers of the Southern Expressway putting up cutouts of President Rajapaksa in a clear violation the law which strictly prohibits putting up posters along the highway
