A meeting point atop a hillock
It takes a mere 10 minutes from the exit of the Southern Expressway to leave tarred roads and billboards behind and reach a leafy village and paddy fields with the occasional peacock pecking about. Quite suitably titled, Villa Mayurana sits atop a hillock in seven acres of cinnamon.
A privately owned house turned holiday home, Villa Mayurana has become a getaway for those who prefer a private vacation. The climb up to the Villa is amidst the welcoming quiet of nature making it hard to keep in mind that one is only a quick tuk tuk ride away from the highway. The thick greenery around the villa obscures the view of the beach just 2 km away; instead guests have a clear view of the Koggala Lake, the village and hazy glimpses of the misty mountain ranges in the distance.
The villa can hold up to eight people at a time and the four suites reflect the rustic style of Sri Lankan woodwork with elegantly contemporary furnishings. The flavour, scent and feel of
cinnamon pervades the bungalow with the walls done in a light warm and obvious cinnamon tone. Two restaurants offer Italian, Indian and local cuisine, and have their own gastronomically titillating creations with their spice of choice playing the hero in the most unusual of ways. While the fitness enthusiast is encouraged to use the gymnasium or take a plunge in the pool overlooking the landscape, one can also simply relax in the jacuzzi or spa.
Its unusual yet strategic location makes Villa Mayurana an ideal meeting point for travellers- a fairly quick trip to the Yala National Park, a day trip to Adam’s Peak or whale watching in Mirissa, are all possible options.
Since its opening almost three years ago the villa has earned its five star reputation on sites such as tripadvisor.
