CB encourages use of clean currency notes also as tourism objective
A currency museum was recently opened at Sampath Bank’s Kandy branch with the assistance of the Central Bank for the benefit of school children and the public in the Central Province.
Opening the new museum, Provincial Director of the Central Bank D.M. Dissanayake said the aim of the Central Bank is to exchange good currency notes among the public. He said that if people have old torn and defaced notes none would like to use them. So, he added, the objective of the Central Bank is for the public to use good, clean currency notes. Citing an example, he said that when tourists visit Sri Lanka and see old torn notes been given to them they form a negative picture of the country. Therefore he said clean notes should always be used.
The Central Bank also issued the new 10 rupee notes. The Central Region Manager of Sampath Bank Prassann Mullegama said that they are grateful to the Central Bank for this offer to allow school children to view this vast museum of currency. The coordinator of the museum was the Senior Mangager of the Sampath Super Branch Sudath Illperuma.
