The inaugural TRT Sixes (Trinity College, Royal College and S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia) for the TRT Combined Colleges Challenge Trophy and TRT Inter Collegiate Challenge Trophies were played at the CH&FC Grounds last Sunday witnessed by old boys of the above mentioned schools along with their families.

The ‘TRT Group’, since its formation has become the subject of conversation amongst several circles for many reasons. It is made up of ‘like minded’ Old Boys from the ‘Troytho’ fraternities, past students of Trinity College, Kandy, Royal College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia (and its affiliated schools at Kollupitiya, Guruthalawa and Bandarawela), who have found a shared common interest and consensus to be so organised into a group; having identified a need to build-on and nurture their mutual bonds of congeniality traditionally shared amongst their joint motto ‘United By Tradition’.

Following are the results of the finals of the two challenge trophy matches concluded:

TRT Combined Colleges Challenge Trophy: Troytho 40s Vs. TRT 40s:

Braving the inclement weather the TRT Combined Colleges Challenge Trophy finals took off when Troytho 40s locked horns with TRT 40s.

Batting first Troytho went on to collect 91 for 1 in their allotted five overs. Naresh Adikaram and Nisal Fernando were unbeaten with 49 and 42 respectively while N.I.C. Perera was the most successful bowler to capture the only wicket that fell giving away 13 runs. In their turn TRT were shot out for 28 and this time Nisal Fernando with the ball doing the damage to claim 3/6 giving an easy victory to Troytho 40s.

In the other finals of the TRT Inter Collegiate Challenge Trophy it was a home and home affair where Royal 2007 met Royal 2012/13. The young Royalists of 12/13 had no difficulty in defeating their seniors easily with 2.2 overs to spare. Royalists 2007 batting first posted a challenging total of 78 for 3 with Samith (28) and Ragitha (27) making the main contributions. Reaching the target the Royalists 12/13 took only 3.4 overs with Purna being the top scorer with an unbeaten 47 while Ravi chipped in with 23.

Royal 12/13 – 80 for 1 (3.4) (Purna 47 n.o., Ravi 23, Supun 1/10)
Upali Gunasekera, Principal of Royal College along with Sub-warden of STC Fr. Marc Billimoria and Vice Principal of Trinity College A. Marasinghe hoisted flags of their respective schools to mark the opening ceremony. Chandresh Abhayaratne (Royal), Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya (STC) and Mahil Wijesuriya gave away the trophies and prizes as chief-guests. – Lakshman Ranasinghe.
