Skipper Nipunaka guides St. Peter’s to easy win
An all-round performance by skipper Nipunaka Fonseka supported by Himsara Randeni helped St. Peter’s to coast through to an easy first innings win over Debarawewa National School in the Under 13 Division One second round match.
Nipunaka’s impressive bowling figures of 5 for 13 enabled St. Peter’s to restrict the visitors to a score of 128. Later Nipunaka slammed an unbeaten 100 which included 11 boundaries and a six along with Himsara who made 66, inclusive of eight boundaries and a six enabling them to put on a valuable 143 runs for the second wicket enabling St. Peter’s to make a formidable 196 for 5.
Mayura Gihan cracked a 57 ball unbeaten knock of 102 inclusive of 17 boundaries and two sixes to steer St. Joseph’ Grandpass to an easy first inning win over Christ King College Jaela.
In fact Mayura was successful with the ball too as his five wicket haul helped his side to bundle out their opponents for a meager 32 before his unbeaten knock enabled his side to amass 329 for 7 and declare.
In the other matches played Royal Panadura secured two wins with one each coming from the division one and two which were against Ananda Sastralaya Kotte and Gamini MMV Bentota.
St. John’s Panadura registered a first innings win over home town rivals Sri Sumangala while Karandeniya Central overcame Sandalanka MV also in the first inning.
St. Aloysius Galle recorded an easy first inning win over President’s College in a division two match while a seven wicket haul by Roshen Nimesh was in vain as it could prevent St. Sebastian’s Moratuwa conceding a first win to Methodist High School Moratuwa.
