Young filmmaker Indika Wickremarachchi’s latest film ‘Duwanna Duwa Duwanna’ won the golden award as the best film at the biannual short film festival organised by the National Film Corporation (NFC) recently. The festival was held for the short film produced for years 2012 and 2013 and the jury citation for Indika’s award read as “for the talent shown through the visual expression of complexities that is created when hopes and dreams of the modern world pressed on to the younger generation,”.

The film revolves around the unbearable burden put on a young child who is studying for the Grade 5 scholarship examination by the parents. It aptly depicts the mental agony the child undergoes.  The film stars Ama Kavindya, Rohana Warnakulasuroya and Manjula Samankumari.

Indika, short film and documentary director had earlier created a tele film ‘Parandhu Dhadu’ and two short films titled ‘Mama Lium Mama’. He also has directed a documentary film titled ‘Hiru Udawela’ for the Governmental Film Unit.

Indika’s maiden feature film ‘Saki’ which has completed shooting is now being edited. It was shot in the Ranminitenna tele village in Hambantota.
