The new, reduced cutoff mark for 2014 Grade 5 Scholarship exam was released following the 2015 Budget that granted 25,000 scholarships for 2015, which is an increase from the 10,000 granted in previous Budgets.

According to the Ministry, applications will be released for an additional 10,000 students qualified to receive schools and scholarships.
Education Minister Bandula Gunewardena earlier said that reducing the cutoff mark will increase the number of scholarships.
Applications have been sent to Provincial Directors of Education, and Zonal Directors asked to immediately collect the forms and distribute to schools in the area.

The cutoff mark was reduced from 163 to 157, while for rural areas it was reduced to 151.
The Minister also said that students who received 70 or above, marks will be awarded certificates of recognition. (NF)
