Art in the Wild is a collection of images by Chitral jayatilake and his daughter Ashvini Jayatilake as they travel through some of Sri Lanka’s richest terrains photographing unforgettable moments they’ve experienced in the wilds.
Its been thirty five years since Chitral Jayatilake embarked on his first ever safari aged eleven, and his passion to record moments in the wild hasn’t faded one bit. His efforts to use photography in developing nature based tourism at a leading tourism chain has resulted in making six international documentaries covering Sri Lanka’s elephants, leopards, whales and other wild creatures shedding much needed spot light to what’s ours in the eyes of the tourists.
His junior, Ashvini is a student of Museaus collage, ardent rower and an advanced level student devotes much time travelling with her father and photographing rare moments through which she believes more children can be inspired to join the effort of conserving this irreplaceable asset. Both Chitral and Ashvini have published their work several times and held exhibitions here and overseas, and this effort covers eighty five images that will take the visitor on a visual safari at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on the 17th and 18th December.
