Maliban wins the Mercantile Cricket Championship 2014
View(s):Proving their prowess in the field of cricket, Maliban, won the Mercantile Twenty-Twenty League Softball Cricket Championship 2014. They won the tournament competing against Nations Trust Bank in the finals. The tournament conducted by the Mercantile Softball Cricket Association, with the participation of 17 teams was held at the Ceylon German Technical Institute ground.
The final set off with Maliban winning the toss and opting to bat first. Lahiru Dushantha scored 28 runs while both Amila Amaranath and R A S Namal scored 16 runs each. At the end of 20 overs, Maliban was able to reach 119 runs.
In their run chase NTB’s final wicket fell at 19.1 overs, falling short with a score of only 114. Tharindu Siriwardena three wickets for 13 runs and Oshan Rasangika two wickets for 11 runs bowled best.
Tharindu Siriwardena won the Man of the Series Award, while Man of the Final Match Award was presented to Lahiru Dushantha.
