The national youth chess team left Sri Lanka for Hungary yesterday to represent the country at the World Youth Chess Olympiad 2014. This event will be for the Under-16s age group where at least one girl should be included in the team. The World Youth Chess Olympiad will be held from December 12 to 22 in Gyor, Hungary as a 9-round Swiss System team event.
Sri Lanka is represented by Dineth Nimnaka Naotunna of D.S. Senanayake College, Supun Dasantha Kuruppu of Ananda College, N.N.B. Herath of Ecole International School, Minul Sanjula Doluweera of Royal College and Dasuni Hansika Mendis of Visakha Vidyalaya. Sandamali Aviruppola, the Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya accompanies the team as the manager and the lady official.
The team which includes vastly experienced players also comprises of National Women’s champion Dasuni Mendis, National Junior champion Minul Doluweera and the National Youth Under-16 champion, Dineth Naotunna.
