The International trade city in Chengdu, China is opening the gate for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and businessmen to establish their business and trade stalls.
Twenty trade stalls have been allocated for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and businessmen on a 3-year rent free basis along with other concessions under an agreement reached between the newly formed Sri Lanka China Trade and Investment Chamber and Chengdu authorities, Chamber President Nihal Aluvihare told a media conference in Colombo this week.
The Chengdu International Trade City is a modern trading and wholesale market where Sri Lankan businessmen can register their company in China as well as open and operate a bank account as well.
It has space and facilities to locate 3000 wholesale establishments with the Chinese authorities already giving approval to six Sri Lankan businessmen to launch their business enterprises in the fields of gem and jewellery and black and organic tea, he disclosed.
The chamber has signed another agreement with the North Chengdu International City for the promotion of business and trade in the areas of e-commerce, tourism, tea, furniture, pharmaceuticals, textiles and apparels.
With the aim of expanding trade and investment between the two countries, a 132 member delegation from 59 Chinese companies visited Sri Lanka and held meetings with Sri Lankan counterparts in a match making exercise arranged by the new chamber, he disclosed.
The chamber will extend necessary assistance to Sri Lankan businessmen and entrepreneurs to export local products to China, he said, adding that Sri Lanka should explore the opportunities to enter the vast Chinese market after the proposed signing of the Free Trade agreement next year.
