Sri Lanka’s vehicle registrations up in past 11 months
View(s):Sri Lanka’s vehicle registrations were up in the past 11 months to November2014 from a year earlier, Motor Traffic Department vehicle registry data revealed.
Total new registrations have been increased by 5.2 per cent to 371,906 during this period from a year earlier, mainly driven down by commercial vehicles.
Motor car registrations were up 6.24 percent to 32,856 units, motor cycles up 21.6 percent to 233,787, while single cabs were down 39.4 per cent to15, 552, and three wheelers down 26.9 per cent to 71,347 during this period.
Registrations of motor lorries have also come down by 21.2 per cent to 3,430.
There was a significant drop in registrations of three wheelers mainly due to taxes in the country following the tightening of credit by finance and leasing companies owing to an increase in non-performing loans, sources of finance companies said.
