Education Ministry to identify ‘Best Classroom Practices’ in Govt. schools
View(s):The Education Ministry has decided to identify Best successful Classroom Practices with regard to teaching -learning process in State schools, to be included in a Resource Manual to be compiled next year.
The Ministry also intends to prepare a Resource Directory to assist in developing professional competencies of teachers at school level, and raise students’ level of achievements.
Education Ministry Secretary, Anura Dissanayake informed Principals to report any activities, programmes, projects and problem solving strategies organised and practised by individuals group of teachers in their respective schools, to identify Best Classroom Practices.
Introducing any fruitful learning environment in the classroom, motivating students in or out of the classroom, various learning opportunities organised for students with different learning modes, classroom discipline, use of new resources and learning methods, getting assistance from parents for student learning, student-peer teaching opportunities and collaborative teaching are suggested topics for the Resource Manual.
The Ministry said that any desired format can be used in sending information, but should be a comprehensive one, as a CD will be produced with selected Best Practices.
According to the Ministry, teacher/s involved in the selected report will be consulted in the production of the CD.
The information, recommended by the Zonal Director of Education, should be forwarded under registered post by the Principal, to The Director, Teacher Education Administration Branch, Ministry of Education, on or before January 31, 2015, with ‘Best Classroom Practices’ written on top left hand corner of the envelope.
For the Resource Directory, applications are called from those retired or employed in the field of education to be included in it.
Those employed in other professional fields and willing to contribute, are also encouraged to apply, and Resource persons selected after an interview.
The aim is to identify Resource persons who could assist in developing teacher skills in general and special fields, and to use their expertise efficiently and successfully in teacher development.
Applications for Resource persons can be collected from the Provincial and Zonal Education offices, or downloaded from the Education Ministry website.
These applications too should be sent to, The Director of Education, Teacher Education Administration Branch, Ministry of Education, on or before January 15, 2015, under registered post, with ‘School Based Teacher Development Programme-Resource Person’ written on top left hand corner of the envelope.
