MR enabled N, E children showcase their talents by ending the war: BG
View(s):Minister of Education, Bandula Gunewardena stated that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has enabled children of the North and the East to showcase their talents, by ending the war.
For a long time, children from these areas were denied opportunities to display their talents, said Mr. Gunewardena at the awards ceremony of the second National Languages Education competition held last week at the Education Ministry auditorium.
”We witnessed how, in the past, there was much dissent and disharmony, and we suffered many losses as a nation. A major cause behind this was that children were segregated into different schools according to race.”
“But that is no longer the case,” he said, adding that, “Today, Sinhala students learn Tamil and Tamil students learn Sinhala, and live with mutual respect.”
Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake and additional secretaries were also in attendance. (YY)
