MAKING A COMEBACK

Cricket fans were at a loss to find out why a man dressed up as a Lion was parading at recent international cricket matches. The Lion also runs into the grounds when a toss is taking place and attracts a lot of attention. It appears that the Lion is the trademark of a beverage that is banned in sports circles but is now trying to make a comeback into the scene in order to boost its sales. This particular brand of drink took pride of place at the 1999 World Cup in England by sponsoring journalists for the event.

UNDERHAND ACTIVITY?

A sport that is run on two wheels has its headquarters in Maharagama but strangely no meetings or discussions are taking place here. It has now been revealed that meetings of this sports association are taking place at the headquarters of a sports body that is extremely popular in the world and where a ball is being kicked about takes pride of place. Also Rs. 15,000 a month is being paid for the headquarters in Maharagama as rent where no meeting has taken place for nearly two years. Could these sports bodies be involved in some underhand activity?

THE BAMBOO SPORT

A game that is being played with a ‘bamboo’ which has been in the background is suddenly making a hit with a massive campaign where 100 teams in the outstations – mainly North Western Province and Western Province teams – will be presented with cash awards, apparently for the services they have done for the sport. This meeting is scheduled to take place at the Shalika Grounds. Altogether 128 teams are to receive these special awards.

CURRYING FAVOURS

With schools cricket about to get into full swing in the New Year two umpiring bodies has been given the task of officiating these games. There two officiating bodied were one at one time but a dispute had taken place where the body was split into two. However it has been noticed that one particular body has been given more games and two officials have been given tours to Thailand for the favours they had rendered.

AVOIDING MUSCLEMEN

Cricket teams (men and women) who bagged Gold and Bronze at the Incheon Asian Games were grandly felicitated at a function jointly held by the Sports Ministry and the cricket authorities, where apparently 11 million cash awards were distributed. However another sports body who flex their muscles, had tried to contact the Big Man in sports to point out that their athletes had won four Gold, three Silver and a Bronze but the Big Man had been had been avoiding them.
