My country
My country is Sri Lanka. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. There are four main communities in my country. They are Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burghers. There are four main religious places in my country. They are the temple, kovil, mosque and church.  There are many beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers and waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Also there are many animals. The longest river in Sri Lanka
is the Mahaweli.

The longest waterfall is Bamabarakanda. The highest mountain is Pidurutalagala.
Sri Lankans are friendly with everybody. I love my country very much.

The life of  an abandoned puppy

Abandoned on the
streets all alone
And hunger striking
me hard
It is many days
without proper food
And I am still waiting
for my master to seek me
Hoping that he would welcome me back home
I keep asking myself what have I done to earn this?

But no one…
No one even throws a glance in my direction
Probably thinking that I am contaminated with germs
These days are the hard days
And I will have to adapt
to this…

My school field trip
On October 21, we had our Grade Four trip to Thalangama Tank and Ape Gama. First we went to the Thalangama Tank where there were lots of birds. Most of the birds we saw were storks, crows, bul buls, parrots, sparrows and humming birds.
To our surprise, we saw two monkeys. We used binoculars to see far. We saw footprints of birds on the ground.
Then we went to Ape Gama.
At Ape Gama, we saw a little crocodile and giant star tortoises and porcupines. We watched how to make patterns on wood carvings. At last we had a yummy lunch. Then we were given a long time to play.
It was time to go and we were not very happy. When we were in the bus we danced and sang songs.
It was such a historical trip that will be remembered for a long time.

Christmas
Christmas is celebrated on December 25. This festival is celebrated by the Christians and the Roman Catholics. We celebrate the birth of Jesus. We decorate the Christmas tree and exchange gifts with our families and friends.

There are lots of fireworks during this season and the streets are decorated beautifully. Little children wait for Santa Claus to come.
We all wait for this time. It is a joyful season.

Christmas
Christmas is a religious festival. This festival is celebrated by Christians in many countries around the world, including Sri Lanka. Christmas falls on December 25 every year. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on this day. They gather around churches and take part in Masses. Christmas Day is a Red Letter Day (the most important day) in their lives. There are various religious activities in churches to mark  this holy day and everything is done with the direction of the priests of the respective churches.

Christians make Christmas cakes and numerous kinds of puddings for this special festival. Wine is one of the favourite drinks. A Christmas tree is decorated and illuminated in every house. Children are very interested in decorating Christmas trees. Children as well as youth get involved in singing Christmas carols.
They are trained in church by a choirmaster.

Christians engage in many religious activities on this sacred day. Helping poor people, giving them gift items and organizing alms-givings are some such activities. Special food items that they prepare are shared among neighbours. They live peacefully, giving prominence to humanity.

My country
My country is the best in the world. It’s called ‘The Pearl of the Indian Ocean.’ But its name is
Sri Lanka. It is a very beautiful country. My country has jungles, waterfalls, rivers, flower gardens, mountains and historical places.
The Mahaweli river is the
longest river and Pidurutalagala is the highest mountain in my country.
My country is situated near the equator. So my country has good and warm weather all the year round. Coconut, tea and rubber
are the main crops of Sri Lanka. Watawala is in the middle of Sri Lanka. The Temple of the Tooth Relic is situated in Kandy. Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa have a very long history and we can see the ruins.
We must protect our country.
I love my country.

It’s Christmas again Christmas which is
celebrated on December 25 is a festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. The day is meant for family and friends to join together and enjoy this significant event in love, peace and
harmony.
Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace was born in a humble abode thousands of years ago to set us free from our sins and bring peace and goodwill to all. There is
a big spiritual message
surrounding his birth, so how should we celebrate Christmas?
Santa Claus visits our homes with loads of gifts
for children. People go
caroling, sing songs and spread the good news of the birth of Jesus on this day.
Christmas reminds us each to continue to have faith in the goodness of humanity and in the
faithfulness of a God of
love and to hope for a
better tomorrow for us all, in a country where peace and justice prevail.

I am a robot
Crush! Crush! Crush! Now all my body parts are fixed with wires.
When I open my eyes, the first
person I saw was my master. He was a Japanese man. He has designed me as a ladies robot in Japan. I was just a little robot. I saw many other
big robots who were so different.
My master tested me whether I am
perfect in work. He was surprised.
I was a marvellous robot in his sight.
After a few days he took me to a big house. I saw a small family in that house. The woman in the house took me inside. She told me some work to do. And I did so. I swept the floor, cleaned the garden, closed the doors and windows, mopped the floor, arranged the chairs and many other work. I didn’t only work but I played, talked and enjoyed with the little child in the house. I help the little child to do her studies as well. I am spending an enjoyable and happy life in this house.
As you know, Japan is the most famous country for robots. I have seen many of my sisters who are
living in some other houses. All of us are spending happy lives in Japan.

My mother
My mother’s name is Jewanthi Dharmarathane. She is respected by
everybody. In a life we have only one mother. My mother brought me to the world. From the day I was born, she took care of me. All the children have their own mothers. She fed me with milk. And she started to give me food like rice and curry. After three years she took me to school.
As we grow older she has to do a lot of work. She does her work happily. She cooks food, washes my clothes, irons my clothes and sometimes lets me see television. She always tells me to study.
She likes to eat rice and curry. She likes to drink ice-coffee. Now she is
36 years old. She is fair in colour and has long black hair. She is very kind and beautiful. I love her very much and she loves me very much.
