Feminine indulgence at Azarya
Beauty queen turned fashion designer, Sabrina Herft launched her latest collection ‘Indulgence’ at her fashion boutique ‘Azarya’ at the Arcade, Independence Square earlier this month.
The collection is a celebration of Sri Lankan lace set in cotton in vivid pastoral colours, the designs emphasising femininity and grace. Her inspiration for the ‘Indulgence’ collection was from the 1950s and the vintage styles of fashion icons of the era like Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly. “There’s no greater feeling of elegance and sensuality than the ones created by the designs of the 1950s,” says Sabrina.
All the lace required for the collection has been created by a 2004 tsunami survivor Priyani, who lost her workshop as well as several of her colleagues to the deadly waves.
Miss Universe Sri Lanka in 2012, Sabrina started her fashion design workshop last November with only one sewing machine and one helper and now has a fully operational workshop with a team of 17 working under her. She accepts that she had no experience in designing which makes Azarya the largest risk she has undertaken so far. But what she may lack in experience, she seems to compensate with talent as seen in her earlier collection ‘Decadence’ which sold out within the first month of launching.
Azarya will widen its portfolio with the inclusion of children’s wear and knitwear by the label Azarya Essentials next year. In-house alterations are available for customers and with her recently launched Azarya Bespoke, custom made clothing is also available.
The e-boutique for Azarya was also launched at the event. The website is user friendly and easy to navigate and is bound to be a popular cyber fashion destination this Christmas season.
Access to the e-boutique is available through www.azarya.lk where her designs can be viewed and bought while the Azarya boutique is on the first floor of the Arcade, Independence Square.
