View(s):LankaPay, the national payment network operator which connected Standard Chartered Bank and Nations Trust Bank recently to its growing network of ATMs taking the total count to over 2500 ATMs, said this week that this network had processed over 10 million transactions to the value of over Rs.30 billion last year.
With these two banks joining Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank, HNB, NDB, People’s Bank, Seylan Bank and Union Bank in the network, customers of all nine member banks enjoy ultimate convenience of withdrawing cash at the nearest ATM, without having to stand in queues and waste time and money going in search of their own bank ATM, according to a LankaPay media release.
Commenting on the progress of the LankaPay network, GM/CEO of LankaClear Mr. Sunimal Weerasooriya said, “We have seen some very encouraging figures on our LankaPay network where the monthly transactions have grown by 25 per cent the December festive season compared to the previous month. This is a clear indication that LankaPay’s objectives are being met providing true convenience to bank customers with affordability. I am sure most of the seasonal shoppers have enjoyed the convenience of our service, saving time and money during the busy festive season. We are excited about every new transaction that comes into our network, as we see it as a sign of trust and confidence that the consumers have placed in changing a lifelong habit to transact on a common payment platform”.
The full implementation of the “LankaPay” national payment network will bring about innovative ways and means of transacting into the future, moving Sri Lanka to a brand new era of online real time payments, the company said.
