Happy and Sad
This year has come to an end. There have been quite a lot of happy feelings and a few sad feelings during the year. My happiest feeling is being first in the class. I also feel happy that it’s the December holidays and we have planned a holiday trip to Pasikudah. I am also happy about going to Pallekelle to see the cricket match this weekend.
But I feel sad as I have to leave
my Grade Two class teacher and other teachers because I will be in a new class next year. They have taught me a lot of things to be a good boy but I know that they are happy that I and the other students have done well in our studies. I wish them happiness during Christmas and in the coming year.

Christmas
Christmas is celebrated by Christians all over the world. Christmas falls on December 25 every year. Jesus Christ was born on this day.
People decorate their houses, churches, shops and roads with nice decorations. The most beautiful decoration is the Christmas tree. People exchange greeting cards and gifts with their loved ones.
People make rich cake, wine and sweets and share them with their friends. People dress colourfully and attend the midnight mass. Children sing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve. Children like to get gifts from Santa Claus.
I look forward to Christmas every year and never fail to hang a stocking for Santa Claus to fill with gifts for me.

A trip to an ancient city
During the last school vacation we went on a trip to Anuradhapura by train. First we went to Colombo Fort station. My father bought tickets. After sometime the train came to the station, we boarded the ‘Yal Devi’ train. I sat by the window to view the surroundings. On the way we had our breakfast.
In the afternoon, we reached Anuradhapura railway station. We got off the train. Then
we went walking to Rathnamali Pilgrim’s Rest.
We had our lunch there.
Later, we went to worship the Atamasthana. First we went to Sri Maha Bo Tree. Then we visited the Ruwanweliseya, the biggest dagoba in Sri Lanka. We offered flowers there. Then we went to Thuparamaya and Samadhi Statue. After that we went to Abayagiriya, Lankaramaya, Jethavanaramaya too. Then we came back to our resthouse at night.
Next day, early in the morning we went to Mihinthalaya. After worshipping there we went back to Anuradhapura again. We had our lunch there. In the afternoon we came to the railway station and before dawn we reached Colombo. We learnt a lot about the ancient city.

Importance of friendship
Friendship is a recipe of wonderful ingredients, such as understanding, trust, help and sharing of confidential thoughts. However, there are several other flavours to make this bond everlasting. It is also a relationship that comforts us in any situation. It can be a shoulder when we cry, a pillow to hug.
At school, I have had lots of friends, but it was when I was in Grade Seven that I got four friends who completely changed my life. We shared happiness, sadness, excitement and enjoyment among ourselves. I felt happy in their presence and sad in their absence. They were a nuisance at times but too much fun to break away. We got punished together and also made mistakes together.
They made my life at school perfect. They stood by me at all situations. Friends are important in life. True friends make our lives better.
They make is laugh louder and smile brighter. Friendship makes our world go round.
