One of the most controversial films in the recent Bollywood history, Aamir Khan blockbuster ‘PK’ which has created box office records worldwide is now being released at Liberty Lite Colombo.  In an escalation of protests against the film India’s Bajrang Dal activists last week vandalised theatres in the western Indian state Gujarat for exhibiting the film for making “fun” of Hindu Gods and godmen and warned that its screening be stopped.

In addition in Gujarat, the right wing activists staged protests in Agra and Mau in Uttar Pradesh and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and one theatre in south Mumbai’s Parel was forced to stop the screening of the film. The film that has grossed over Rs 200 crore in Indian box office in the first 10 days since its release on December 19 was also stopped in at least two theatres in Ahmedabad and in other parts of Gujarat.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Siddharth Roy Kapur, ‘PK’, the comedy film tells a story about a goggle-eyed alien who arrives on Earth with a mission to study humanity. It stars Aamir Khan in the title role, with Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla, and Sanjay Dutt in supporting roles.
