The Colombo Magistrate on Friday ordered the Police Children and Women Bureau to obtain the mobile phone record of a 14-year-old boy who appeared in a UPFA television advertisement where he is seen accusing NDF Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena of abducting his mother.
The magistrate’s order to trace the call records from December 26 to January 2 came after a woman complained to the Child and Women Bureau saying her son was forcibly used for the election advertisement.

In her complaint, the woman, a divorcee, said her ex-husband had visited her mother, who is the legal guardian of the boy, and took him away saying they were going on a trip to Elephant Pass.

She said that a few days later, she saw the TV advertisement where her son was seen accusing Mr. Sirisena of abducting his mother and pleading with him to release her.

The woman said she had given her son a mobile phone and after a telephone call to him found out he had been confined to a room.
The police have sought a court directive to stop the telecast of the advertisement.

Attorneys Saliya Peiris appeared for the complainant. The case will be taken up again on January 14.
