PBJ makes eve-of-election visit to Sri Lanka Customs

A special meeting to welcome the Treasury Secretary was held under the patronage of Customs chief Jagath P. Wijeweera, official sources said.
Addressing employees at the meeting, Dr. Jayasundera emphasised the need to streamline revenue collection of the Customs as it is essential for the country’s sustenance. He called on employees of the Customs department to extend their fullest contribution to make the service more efficient and vibrant while outlining the achievements of the government, a senior official of Sri Lanka customs said.
Some employees interpreted Dr. Jayasundera’s speech as an ‘extraordinary’ one targeted for the upcoming presidential elections, in two days. But it was denied by the Senior Customs official and its spokesman Lesley Gamini saying that he has the recording of the speech.
He further noted there was no disruption to day-to- day functions of the Customs as the New Year customary meeting lasted less than an hour.
