Dutugemunu ready for release

Jayantha Chandrasiri’s newest film ‘Maharaja Dutugemunu’, a cinematic creation woven around the life story of King Dutugemunu will be released from January 23 at EAP circuit cinemas around the country. Scripted by Jayantha himself, the film is produced by Dr. Gunapala Ratnasekara for Sipvin films. The massive cast of the film includes Uddika Premarathna, Jackson Anthony, Sriyantha Mendis, Buddhadasa Vithanarathchi, Saranga Disasekara, Yashoda Wimaladharma, Damitha Abeyratne, Jagath Manuwarna, Lucky Dias, Arjuna Kamalanath, Rex Kodippili, Arjuna Kamalanath, Bimal Jayakody, Dimuthu Chinthaka, Gamini Jayalath, Nilanthi Dias, Dharshan Dharmarajh, Ajith Weerasinghe and Srinath Maddumage.
The biopic is to combine the legends and extensive research involving the Mahavamsa, Deepavansa, Thupavansa, Rajavaliya and Rasavahiniya and is to highlight the bravery and humane qualities of King Dutugemunu. Camera by Ruwan Costa, music by Nadeeka Guruge, edited by Ravindra Guruge, make up by Jayantha Ranawaka, art director Rohan Samaradivakara, and Aruna Priyantha Darmapala art direction. Lyrics written by Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana and Jayantha himself the playbacks songs are sung by Chandrika Siriwardena, Nirosha Virajini, Nadeeka Guruge and Dileeka Abeysekara.
Starting with the muhurath ceremony of the film in front of Ruwanwelisa Dagoba in Anuradhapura, one of the greatest creations of King Dutugemunu, the main location for the film was Weerawila.
