The Army yesterday denied reports, including on social media, that some military camps in the North had been stoned by unknown persons in the post-election period.

Military Spokesman Brig. Ruwan Wanigasooriya also rejected reports that various explosions had been heard and that the flag of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had been hoisted in public.

There is no basis for any of these rumours, the spokesman said, adding that there was a peaceful atmosphere throughout the country. He said security in the North was guaranteed, that no sabotage of any nature had been committed and that nobody will have the opportunity to conduct such acts.
