Canvas of all genres
View(s):An exhibition and sale of watercolour paintings will be held by Lakshmi Perera, a former teacher of Ananda College, from January 15 -17.
A gifted child artist, Lakshmi studied under Mudliyar A.C.G.S. Amarasekera who introduced her to watercolours, and held her first exhibition in 1989 at the British Council, Kandy and also subsequently exhibited her work in London along with other amateur artists. In June 2010 she held her second solo exhibition in London, donating the proceeds to the Past Pupils Association of Visakha Vidayalaya (UK) , her alma mater.
This time with around 120 paintings to display, she says they cover all genres, portraits, still life, landscapes etc. “My style of painting is somewhat true to life but I have not attempted to achieve photographic similarity,” she says, adding that she is influenced by artists such as Richard Ackerman, John Yardley and Donald Ramanayake.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Past Teachers’ Association of Ananda College and the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the scholarship fund of the PTA of Ananda and to the hostel fund of the OBA of Ananda College. The exhibits are very reasonably priced as the aim of the exhibition is to collect funds for these deserving charities.
The exhibition, ‘Netha Rendune Thane’ will be declared open at the “Siyawasa” building of Ananda College, Colombo on the 15th at 4.30 p.m. by a well known Anandian student of the artist and will be open from 9.30 to 5 p.m. on Friday, the 16th and Saturday the 17th. All are welcome.
