Super Kings champs at Vidura Junior Cricket Fiesta

Super Kings beat Black Dragons to clinch the inaugural Junior Cricket Fiesta of Vidura College Colombo which was held at the Sri Jayawardenapura Cricket ground in Kotte recently. Four teams competed in this tournament organised by the Vidura College Sports Administrators with the ambition to uplift the budding cricketing talents of the school.

The four teams in contention were Pumas, Stallions, Black Dragons and eventual winners Super Kings, which was led by A. D. Karunaratne. The players were selected from grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Vidura College who played as a combined unit. However many of the individual awards were swept by the runner-up team Black Dragons who won the best bowler, best batsman and emerging player of the tournament awards.

Lasith Ranasinghe was adjudged the best bowler, while Dilshan Perera elected the best batsman. Yalina Jayasundera won the emerging player of the tournament award. Prakash Kashmeera of Stallions won the best fielder’s award. The tournament was spearheaded by an idea brought up by Upali de Silva, the Manager of Sports of Vidura College.

The victorious Super Kings under the captaincy of A.D. Karunanayake, included Naveen Wijesuriya, Dananjaya Weerasingha, Menidu Jayasinghe, Hemsith Senavirathna, Prashan Ranasinghe, Thasindu Ekanayake, Ometh Hettiarachchi, Ishan Wickramratne, A.B. Gayan and Binula. Yalina Jayasundara led the Black Dragons and he had the assistance of Nuran Weeraratne, Yesen Binuwara, Pasindu Jayawickrama, Nisal Pathiraja, Thevindu Dineth, Movindu Silva, Githmin Weeramanthri, Dineshka Fernando, Lasith Ranasinghe, Lakmuthu Dissanayake and Dilshan Perera.

Stallions were led by Sachintha Basnayake and his team included Lisara Perera, Sachina Wickramatunga, Prakash Kashmeera, Sithum Ranasinghe, Ihiviru Hapangama, Dinura Karunathilaka, Chamodh Manthilaka, Thisum Abeywickrama, Penuja Abeywickrama, Anuga Karunathilake and Geemath Suraweera. The Pumas was led by Vidun Shanuka and included Banula Kumbukdeniya, Hesitha Sannujaya, Senura Sumanadasa, Nesith Lakvindu, Damondu Perera, Senan Balachandra, Denith Chethiya, Nimsara Fernando, K. Anuja and Senutha Perera. – NA
