The medicine of today: ICAUST 2014
View(s):‘Ayurveda the Medicine of Today’ was the theme of the 2nd International Conference on Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Traditional Medicine
(ICAUST) 2014 held in December by the Institute of Indigenous Medicine (IIM) together with the University of Colombo and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The keynote addresses at the inauguration held at the Water’s Edge Hotel, Battaramulla, were delivered by Prof. R.R Dwivedi of the Gujarat Ayurvedic University in India, Dr. Wasia Naveed of the Government Nizamia Tibbi College in India, and Dr. S Bavani from the University of Jaffna. UGC Chairperson Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama and Colombo University Vice Chancellor Dr. W.K Hiriburegama were also present while around 400 participants from Sri Lanka and the SAARC region took part in ICAUST 2014.
The 21 scientific sessions were held at the IIM in Rajagiriya, while the trade exhibition ‘Ayu Expo’ saw stalls from India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, Australia, Germany and the United States of America displaying their goods.
The aim of the conference was to provide a platform for eminent researchers, academics, physicians, traditional and medical practitioners, manufacturers and exporters of Ayurveda and herbal products, members from the corporate sector, marketing consultants, agricultural sector and stake holders from all over the world. Ayu-Expo was organised to facilitate private-public partnerships.
The IIM is the centre of excellence in ayurveda, unani, traditional medicine and allied sciences covering training, education, clinical activity and research.
