R2I Bill is coming, Media Minister assures prelates

A Committee of 15 members has been appointed to go into the proposed Right to Information Bill to be introduced in Parliament shortly, the new Media Minister Gayantha Karunatilleke told the Mahanayake Theras yesterday.

During separate meetings with the Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayake, the Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakitha Thera, and the Malwatte Chapter Mahanayake, the Ven. Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, the minister said that the proposed Right to Information (R2I) Bill would be presented in Parliament and implemented in keeping with the 100- day programme of the Government.

He said the people had been invited to make representations to the committee, adding that certain organisations and journalists had already made representations to the committee.
