Education Ministry’s Investigation Unit to be strengthened: AVK

The Education Ministry is to strengthen its Investigation Unit to receive and probe complaints regarding schools, teachers and other Educational issues, Education Minister, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.

He said that, currently, due to shortages within the system, investigations were not handled properly and this was affecting the Education sector.
The number of inspection officers in the Education Ministry has been increased from 6 to 50 to ensure efficient inspection, following discussions between Minister Kariyawasam and the ministry’s senior officials.

He said that, one of the problems has been the lack of vehicles. “We will now provide them vehicles to visit schools and conduct inspections,” he added.

He said that their allowance of Rs 500 too will be increased, while arrangements have been made to provide them with all amenities.
In future, the Investigation Unit will function under an Additional Secretary.
