‘Wisdom Talks’ on Yoga and Hindu culture
View(s):An ancient practice of discipline both for mind and body, Yoga is even today, a popular form of exercise and lifestyle adopted by many. Sri Lanka’s foremost yoga centre Astanka Yoga Mandir in collaboration with Sri Bathrakali Amman Kovil and Shri Ponnambalawaneswara Devasthanam hope to give Colombo’s yoga followers a further glimpse into the diversity of Yoga and Hindu culture from which it draws its roots. Joining them for the next three days to do so is Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan with ‘Wisdom Talks’ on Yoga and ‘Talks on Hindu Culture and Indian Knowledge System’.
Described as a pioneer in Yoga teaching and training, Astanka Yoga Mandir first opened its doors to Sri Lanka in 1992. Affiliated with the number one Yoga University in the world, S-Vyasa Yoga University in Bangalore, India, the Institute both teaches and offers courses on yoga instruction and education ranging from yoga therapy to corporate yoga, for both children and adults.
Leading the talks is renowned scientist and spiritual teacher, Dr. Gopalakrishnan. With 28 years of research experience behind him, and accolades in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Industrial Sociology he is the only scientist who has been awarded a D.Litt for his research and studies in Sanskrit. The next few days will shed light on the different techniques and aspects of yoga and meditation in day-to-day living. While the yoga talks will make up the morning sessions, the evening lectures will be dedicated to aspects of Hindu culture. All the sessions will be open to the public with free entrance.
