The 64th Sri Lanka Army Colours Night will take place on February 12 at the BMICH commencing at 7.00 p.m. with the patronage of State Minister for Defence Ruwan Wijewardene who will be the Chief Guest.

595 sportsmen and women will receive colours for their outstanding performances in various sports disciplines. Army sportsmen and women always are in the forefront in sports in Sri Lanka with three members of Army, Duncan White, Susanthika Jayasinghe and Sgt. Predeep Sanjaya winning medals at Olympics and the Para Olympics. In addition to athletics in the field of cricket too, Army cricketers Ajantha Mendis and Seekuge Prasanna are notable performers in world cricket.

Seventy five of the most outstanding athletes will be awarded colours at this year’s night while the rest will be awarded colours at their respective regimental colours nights. Colours are to be awarded in two categories Maurema and Colour. It is interesting to note that fifty out of 595 eligible for colours are Para Athletes. Colours will be awarded in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Billiards and Snooker, Baseball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Elle, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Kabadi, Karate, Motor Racing, Netball, Parachute, Rowing, Rugger, Football, Rifle Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tai-quon-do, Handball, Wrestling, Wushu, Para Games and Body-building.

Prior to the main event on 12th a Photographic exhibition consisting of over 600 rare sports photographs will be declared open on the 10th February by the State Minister for Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene at 10.00 a.m. at the BMICH. For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka Army a History Souvenir of 450 pages will be launched at the photographic exhibition. Entrance will be free of charge.

Navy Commodore Vice Admiral S.A.M. J. Perera will declare open the proceedings on the second day (11th) with the felicitation of coaches, sports committee officials and selected players of various sports disciplines.
