The ‘No Confidence’ motion against Minister of Public Order, Disaster Management and Christian Affairs John Amaratunga is likely to be confined to the Order Paper of Parliament.

It has been listed in the category of “Motions for which no dates have been fixed”.

The ‘No Confidence’ motion signed by nearly 140 UPFA members, was handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament on Feb.7.

The motion accuses the Minister of acting in a biased manner by neglecting to direct law enforcement authorities to investigate attacks on UPFA and trade union activists.

The assault on the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was cited as one of the instances where the Police failed to act in an impartial manner. It alleges that the Minister acted partially and failed to give necessary directives and provide leadership to protect and enforce law and order in relation to incidents of harassment of Opposition activists.
